Sugar Wants The Spider’s Record

“Sugar” vs. “Shrek” in ‘08 (yes, I said Shrek, not Sherk).
MMAFanhouse has an interview up with current UFC light heavy champ, Rashad “Sugar” Evans, and the former TUF contestant has some bold comments before his first title defense. Things like his intent on breaking Anderson Silva’s win streak record (and fighting The Spider himself).
Here are a few notable quotes:
It wouldn’t be a Rashad Evans fight if I wasn’t the underdog.
I thought Lyoto was more deserving than Rampage anyway…. He’s better…. I like Rampage a lot. I think he’s really funny and charismatic. But I still want to beat his ass some day.
I want to get Anderson Silva’s record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC, with nine, keep the belt and then break that record…. I’d love to fight Anderson Silva.
[On if disliking an oppenent helps in motivation] Not really. I remember when I fought Tito Ortiz, I got caught up too much in that. I’m the kind of fighter who doesn’t need to fight angry or upset. I fight because I love to fight, I love the competition.
(Keith) Jardine is my No. 1 training partner. I couldn’t go through a camp without him. There’s just no way I could go into the Octagon and fight him. I would rather retire…. It’s the truth.
Yes, Evans is the underdog even though he is the current title holder. Which begs the question, why has it taken so long for Lyoto Machida to get his well-deserved shot? We know his style is a little on the boring side, but the main reason is because Dana White is a douchebag. And Rampage is funny, but I think it’s because he’s had his ass beat many times already.
As for not liking Tito, that seems to be a theme these days.
And as for loving Keith Jardine, how could you not?
