MMAMadness has a piece about the loco that Monte Cox is selling:

Tim Sylvia and Ray Mercer will now meet in a heavyweight mixed martial arts bout at Adrenaline III this Saturday at the BJCC Arena in Birmingham, Ala, sherdog.com is reporting.

The matchup of former UFC champion and former boxing champion will headline 14 additional MMA bouts in the cage. The event will no longer be regulated.

Originally scheduled as a six-round boxing bout, Adrenaline owner and promoter Monte Cox said he made the decision to re-categorize the match on Thursday.

There are many elements to this. Such as the 48-year-old Ray Mercer is to MMA, that what David Caruso is to “CSI: Miami” (that’s not a good thing). And Tim Sylvia continues his free fall into oblivion at an even more rapid pace. Apparently Monte Cox was told he would face criminal charges by the Association of Boxing Commissions if the original boxing match was held. Being that MMA fights do not have to be sanctioned like boxing bouts (maybe that’s why boxing sucks now), Cox switched it up to an MMA fight. So now Mercer is going to be doing battle in the MMA world and not Sylvia doing the same in the boxing world.

Will the result be different? Doubt it.
