UFC 102 Results & Randy’s New Contract

Craig Ferguson has always been a striker, but has lately been improving his ground game.
UFC 102 went down last night in Portland and despite a lack of title matches, it was a great one. Randy Couture ad A-Rod Nog’s fight was a classic and could compete for best of the year. There were two split decisions and two quick KO’s — one being the fastest ever in the UFC. In case you missed it, here are the results from last night:
MAIN CARD:
– Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeats Randy Couture via unanimous decision
– Thiago Silva defeats Keith Jardine via strikes TKO, Round 1 @ 1:35
– Jake Rosholt defeats Chris Leben via arm-triangle choke, Round 3 @ 1:30
– Nate Marquardt defeats Demian Maia via knockout punch, Round 1 @ 0:21
– Brandon Vera defeats Krzysztof Soszynski via unanimous decision
PRELIMINARY CARD:
– Aaron Simpson defeats Ed Herman via injury TKO, Round 2 @ 0:17
– Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Chris Tuchscherer via punches TKO, Round 1 @ 4:27
– Mike Russow defeats Justin McCully via unanimous decision
– Duffee defeats Tim Hague via KO, Round 1 @ 0:07
– Mark Munoz defeats Nick Catone via split decision
– Evan Dunham defeats Marcus Aurelio via split decision
Afterwards, Dana White and Randy Couture announced a six fight contract extension for The Natural. So he will be fighting until he is 79. Here’s the scoop from MMAJunkie:
“I think the opportunity to stay with the organization was my motivation,” Couture (16-10 MMA, 13-7 UFC) said. “I think with things being the way they are, this is the place to be. I intend to finish my career here in the UFC.”
Couture had one fight remaining on his old deal, and despite the sometimes-strained relationship between “The Natural” and his employer that led to a near-15-month layoff less than two years ago, the fighter looks forward to future challenges in the UFC.
If Couture were to complete the new deal, he would finish the contract with 32 career fights at 48 years old. There’s certainly no guarantee the UFC Hall of Famer will complete the terms, but Couture said age has nothing to do with how he’ll approach the coming bouts.
“I’m going to take it one fight at a time as I did 12 years ago when I started this thing,” Couture said. “I’ll see where that goes.”
Couture said he wants “interesting fights” and hinted at being interested in fighting in the lightweight division against guys like Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. Now that would be interesting.
